My First Trip to Hawaii: Kauai - the Garden Island

Mood Music: Blue Hawaii
I have been looking forward to going to Hawaii for years. The swaying palm trees, sweet-smelling breezes, warm tropical water, and Elvis romanticism of island life is definitely the stuff of daydreams, but being there in person was even better, and was truly such a wonderful experience. Flying out of busy LAX airport and landing in the calm, small airport of Lihue, Kauai helped us instantly switch to a much needed "vacation mode". Kauai is known as the Garden Island because it is covered in vegetation and has a much smaller population than the other large islands.
With the windows down in our rented Jeeps we drove about 45 minutes to Princeville where we stayed at a stunning rental home with ocean views out of almost every window. We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to go with a group of our friends to celebrate my dear friend Taylor's milestone birthday.
We ate as much of the local macadamia nut banana bread and pineapple as we could every day, and enjoyed mai tais at sunset. We hiked to Hideaway Beach and Queen's Bath (where Hawaiian royalty used to bathe!), both of which were breathtaking, hidden treasures. We also took a sunset catamaran tour of the Na Pali Coast, which is primarily seen only by boat or helicopter, and it was beautiful beyond words.
I cannot wait to go back, and I hope that you get a chance to see it someday, too!
