Vol. 6 | November 23, 2020

I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving! While this year will certainly be different in how we are celebrating, Charlie and I still have a lot to be thankful for: our health, our jobs, and our wonderful families (including a few new puppies!). Here are a few quick things to help you with the week:

ONE: Tips on How to Time Thanksgiving

Managing all of those recipes with different cooking times, plus the limit of who can share the oven and the stove at the same time can make Thanksgiving feel really overwhelming. I even made myself an Excel chart to know what dish I should be working on at what time so that everything ends up nice and warm once the turkey is done. It doesn't always go as expected, but having a plan helps me reduce stress on the day-of. One of my favorite chefs, Samin Nosrat, has a whole blog post on how to time thanksgiving if you need some help! Tip: start brining that turkey today if you haven't started already!

TWO: Recipes for Two of My Favorite Side Dishes

If you are looking to add a little twist on the classics of mashed potatoes and bread rolls, you should give these two recipes a try! These Brown Butter Sage Mashed Potatoes from Half Baked Harvest have been a favorite of mine for years, and stay warm really well in a crock pot, which allows me to free up some stove top space and make them far in advance. Also, I absolutely love this Blueberry Cornbread recipe from Real Simple. It tastes amazing fresh from the oven, room temperature, and even cold from the fridge (it tastes like cake when it's cold!), which again add so much flexibility to your Thanksgiving Day timing.

THREE: Dinner Playlist

You have spent so much time preparing the food for Thanksgiving, so don't forget the music and ambiance! Light some candles and enjoy this relaxing Thanksgiving Playlist for during dinner. It's full of classics that everyone will enjoy!

FOUR: The Perfect Slippers

Now that you are full from all of these delicious foods, you will need the perfect slippers (and perhaps sweatpants) to cozy up while you clean the dishes. These ones from Amazon are so soft and cute, and only $25!

FIVE: Black Friday Sales

Even though you no longer have to wait for most Black Friday sales, there is still something fun to the tradition of waking up Friday after Thanksgiving and doing online Christmas shopping for friends and family. Here are some places that I will be shopping:

- fancy pajamas: Lake Pajamas

- good classics:: J. Crew and Banana Republic

- great stocking stuffers: Anthropologie
